With a historical reputation as an exclusive resort, Frinton retains an atmosphere of the 1920/30's. Elegant tree-lined avenues sweep down to the Esplanade and cliff-top greensward. With its colourful Victorian-style beach huts, Frinton was the favourite retreat for the aristocracy and even Royalty.
In the first half of the 20th century the village attracted visitors from high society. Connaught Avenue, named after the Duke of Connaught and opened by his wife, was nicknamed East Anglia's Bond Street.
Today, the shops have plenty of independent little shops and is lovely to wander the small high street. The sandy beach is excellent for small children and are usually calm and relatively shallow. In winter months, horse riders gallop across the flat beaches at low tide. Frinton Tennis Club offers many sporting options for non members with lawn tennis, a gym, swimming, squash, racketball and croquet.
Frinton is home to the Frinton Summer Theatre Season, employing many soon to be famous actors at the start of their career. Michael Denison, Vanessa Redgrave, Timothy West, Jane Asher, David Suchet, Gary Oldman, Owen Teale, Lynda Bellingham and many others started their careers at the theatre. There is a healthy Jazz Club community holding regular performances, along with a Literary Festival and Classical festival.
